A Beginners Guide to Spiders

A chance to learn more about spiders: basic biology and habitats. Dr Geoff Oxford will give an introduction to the commoner species and how to identify and sex them.

Also, learn how to record the relevant information and get involved in spider recording in Yorkshire.

A practical session will demonstrate sampling methods using sweep-nets, pooters and all manner of other devices to examine different habitats and collect material for later identification.

After lunch there will be opportunity to use microscopes to examine our catch.

This workshop, run on behalf of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, is being promoted jointly by the University of York and the British Arachnological Society.
