A unique site in our network of nature reserves, Glendun is a hill farm. It incorporates a variety of habitats including grassland, rush pasture, heather moorland, blanket bog, hedgerows, woodland and part of the Glendun River. On a clear day, savour the amazing views from the heather-clad plateau at the top of the glen. This upland habitat is breeding ground for the threatened red grouse. The pasture on the lower slopes is grazed by Irish moiled cattle, a traditional and hardy breed; and sheep. Look out for Northern Ireland priority bird species on the nature reserve including; hen harrier, red grouse, skylark, mistle thrush, song thrush, grasshopper warbler, spotted flycatcher, starling, and house sparrow. Other wildlife you may see include dipper, golden plover, whinchat, red squirrel, otter and Leisler's bat. The nature reserve is significant for wax cap fungi, including the pink meadow cap. A number of rare lichens are also found here.
