Britain's Hoverflies - an introduction
Hoverflies are one of the most popular groups of flies that attract attention from both natural historians and gardeners. The British fauna comprises over 280 species and the list continues to grow. Their ecology is very varied, making them some of the most useful indicators of the health of the countryside. This talk provides an overview of hoverfly ecology and the work of the Hoverfly Recording Scheme which is run by a growing team led by Stuart Ball and Roger Morris.
Amphibians and Reptiles in UK
The talk will include information on how to identify amphibians and reptiles found in the UK and some recent discoveries about the relationships and bizarre breeding habitats of amphibians! Terry will also briefly discuss current threats to amphibians, including amphibian diseases. Terry Moore has been surveying for amphibians and great crested newts in particular since the early 1970s. Until the new biodiversity recording system, he held the official records for all great crested newt sites within the old county of Cambridgeshire.
