Wood Ants in the Wyre Forest Walk

Discover the history of a working forest and how it has affected these busy insects. See the biggest ants nest in the forest and learn about the slave making ant, the guest ant and the forest’s other wildlife.

Paul Wilson is an ecologist with a keen interest in wood ants. He has located and measured hundreds of wood ant nests in the Wyre Forest while researching their nesting habits and has mapped their distribution for the Wyre Forest Study Group.
£3 per person. There will be a refreshment break; please bring your own sandwiches/drinks. Booking is essential.

The walk covers approximately 2.5 miles, mainly on tracks but with some steep sloping ground (stout footwear required) and will finish between 12.30 and 1.00pm.

A Minibus from Bournville Green (Newsagent) via Longbridge (Station) and Rubery, (Morrisons) may be run if there is sufficient demand. Please request transport when booking.

Oh, and a word of advice: be prepared to tuck your trousers into your socks – you don’t want ants in your pants!
