An illustrared talk by Andy Karran, showing a selection of familiar and not so familiar creatures that make their homes in South Wales rock pools. The talk will explain their ecology ( zonation of animals and adaptations to the harsh, changing environment they live in ) and where you can find them for yourselves.

Hedgehogs are a species in rapid decline. What can be done to change this course of events; protect their numbers; improve their habitats?

Hear from a Hedgehog Helpline Cymru Volunteer how the 'Hedgehog Helpline' rescue these delightful creatures. They hope some of the little charges will be brought along on the evening.  A request for jelly-based cat food or dry biscuits donations is made by the Hedgehog Helpline - can you help?

Vicki Worsley will talk about the work of the Woodland Trust, creating, promoting and restoring native woodland. In particular she will look at tree diseases, how to identify ancient woodland and citizen science.

These secretive animals, have at times received a bad press, but what are they really like?

Ian Harvey is the West of England Wildlife Manager from the Forestry Commission and he will tell us  what these creature's characteristics and habitats are.

The woodland area just off Ramsey hairpin is a hidden delight of the Island, join us for a walk in the woods among the silvery grey beeches and towering sweet chestnut trees. Explore the secret woodland huts and log balancing bars, be amazed at the maze and ooh and aah at the view of Ramsey town from the snail fort. Don’t forget to wear your wellies!

At our last event of the summer season we are dipping into the depths of the Silverburn to discover a whole new world lying beneath the water surface. These animals have the most amazing life cycles and are so clever at adapting to their watery lives. Always really popular and a great learning experience.

Bats are so mysterious and engaging to watch, we are joining forces with the Isle of Man bat group and with the help of their bat detectors finding what these delightful creatures are up to as they flutter around at dusk.

This beach has some of the best rockpools on the Island. See the graceful pipefish which wrap around seaweed, watch the hermit crabs scuttle around the seabed and with luck we might even catch a glimpse of the extraordinary European eel. Rock pooling is a brilliant way of engaging your child with nature.
